Hybrid cloud with vCloud Availability

A new post about vCloud Availability capabilities for migrating VMs in a hybrid cloud environment is available at Pyxis's technical articles. Although it is in Spanish, I'll summarize it here.

Summary

  • With vCloud Availabiliy, downtime caused by virtual machine migration between sites, and it's respective rollback, can be greatly minimized. In our tests these tasks took ten minutes or less.
  • Migration and replication tasks, and their corresponding rollbacks, can be self-serviced by the vCloud Director tenant.
  • On-premise vCloud Availability setup is relatively easy for the on-premise vSphere administrator.
  • On-premise vSphere administrator does not need to pay additional license fees.
  • In order to use full vCloud Availability functionalities, vCenter 6.5 U2 is required on both ends.

Acknowledgements

  • I'd like to thank Pyxis for their support.
